Our throw Away Society... There is no doubt that our modern way of living produces a considerable amount of waste. Like most families I have a bin for green waste and one for normal rubbish. These are combined with containers for plastics, one for paper and cardboard and one for glass. I am amazed by how much rubbish my family seems to produce each week as I struggle to move the appropriate container ready for its collection on the appointed day. We seem to have developed a culture where nothing is no longer repaired it is simply tossed aside and a new one purchased. Accepting that this may be the natural progression of society I am dumbfounded at the people who go out of their way to get rid of their possessions without meaning to. |

| Despite considerable crime prevention advice there are still people leaving their laptop computers and satellite navigation devices in their cars. I know this because they then report the theft of these devices to the police wondering why it is them who have become a victim of crime. They will tell us how security conscious they were locking the device in the boot of the car so that it wasn’t on show. This doesn’t help much when the thief is watching them do so. Some of these devices are worth many hundreds of pounds. Even in our modern throw away society I think that is too much to be throwing away.
