Thames Valley Police   Our throw Away Society...

There is no doubt that our modern way of living produces a considerable amount of waste. Like most families I have a bin for green waste and one for normal rubbish. These are combined with containers for plastics, one for paper and cardboard and one for glass. I am amazed by how much rubbish my family seems to produce each week as I struggle to move the appropriate container ready for its collection on the appointed day.

We seem to have developed a culture where nothing is no longer repaired it is simply tossed aside and a new one purchased. Accepting that this may be the natural progression of society I am dumbfounded at the people who go out of their way to get rid of their possessions without meaning to.

Despite considerable crime prevention advice there are still people leaving their laptop computers and satellite navigation devices in their cars.  I know this because they then report the theft of these devices to the police wondering why it is them who have become a victim of crime.  They will tell us how security conscious they were locking the device in the boot of the car so that it wasn’t on show.  This doesn’t help much when the thief is watching them do so.

Some of these devices are worth many hundreds of pounds.  Even in our modern throw away society I think that is too much to be throwing away.

MOTHERING SUNDAY DAFFODIL DAY

On a field just outside of Marlow, a huge patch of assorted daffodils are growing ready to be picked in the first ever Mothering Sunday Daffodil Day. The brain child of Anna and Dan Oliver, it is hoped to become an annual event to give Mum a relaxed treat.

A lovely open setting where kids can come and pick a bunch of flowers for mum, have their face painted and make a card and a gift. Dad can also shirk his gift buying duties and surrender his cheque book to the selection of quality stalls. From bags to bracelets, pashminas to peg bags, something for everyone, as well as massages, manicures and a photographer on hand to capture the fun.

Dont let rain put you off, everyone will be undercover so just bring your wellies. Daffodil Day is proud to support Cancer and bi-detection dogs, a new charity based in Aylesbury who are working hard to train dogs to detect Cancer, as well as assisting diabetics by sniffing out changes in blood sugar levels.

Please do come along to find out more about the wonderful work they are doing.

Daffodil day will be held at the junction of Pump Lane North and Wycombe Road, Marlow on a field opposite the Three Horseshoes public house on March 14th from 11am to 4pm.
