About

Hi I’m Serena Edwards, owner and publisher of Along the Thames Magazine.  I started the magazine after having been the Editor of the Maidenhead and Marlow National Childbirth Trust magazine.  I held this position for three years in which time I turned it around from a loss making position into one of making over £1,000 per annum. I got a lot of enjoyment from producing the magazine, so after reflection and running and owning another business in between I decided to start my own.  I could never have conceived how difficult it would be to convince businesses to support me, but I succeeded and some of those businesses still advertise with me today.  So thank you to them and all the other businesses over the years that have supported me.  We have now been going for almost five years, which seems to have flown by and in that time I have taught myself many things about graphic design, design packages, printing and distribution and a myriad of other skills to go with them.  I never do anything by halves and complete all tasks to a high standard. By running the magazine I have had the opportunity of meeting many fabulous local people and businesses.  I believe very much in moving forward and not standing still!  Life is too short.

It seems strange to end up in a profession that you never start in.  I have a degree in accounting and worked in the audit world for a couple of years, but given my personality this really wasn’t for me.  I moved into the Sales Arena and moved up from Sales Representative to Trade Marketing Manager in a variety of companies, such as Colgate-Palmolive, Westons Biscuits, Corning Ware and finally Bristol-Myers Squibb Consumer Division.  During this time I worked and lived in Australia and only returned to the UK in mid 1998, having worked in the USA for a short time, learning the pricing module for SAP.  I became immersed in an implementation project for SAP in Chester, for Bristol-Myers Squibb Pharmaceutical Division, and was involved in a variety of tasks, including training, implemetation and change management.  So as you can see I have never stood still!

I enjoy everything I do and attack all projects with a huge amount of enthusiasm, passion and commitment as I believe that life is worth living to the full and getting the most out of it. I live and enjoy each day as they bring their own challenges and rewards.  I enjoy meeting and connecting people, which I do through running two Business Biscotti groups as well as visiting many other local networking groups.

Running my own business gives me a  lot of satisfaction and gives me the flexibility to fit in with my family life as well.

I’m always happy to have a chat and find out about what other people do, so if you see me around, come and say hello.

I look forward to meeting you ……
